A Short Lived Cold Blast

Man, I am really pumped up this morning!  It could be all the coffee, but I think it has more to do with the possibility of getting to snowboard this weekend.  Yes, I said snowboard.  For those who haven’t heard, Cataloochee announced on their Facebook page that they will attempt to open on Saturday at 8:30.  They will make snow tonight and tomorrow night, hoping to be open to midstation for the weekend.  Woo!

Now down to business.  A cold front moved through in the wee hours of the morning, bringing showers to some areas of the region last night and this morning.  The next couple of days will be a complete 180 from the weather we’ve seen over the past few days.  Much colder air is filtering into the region and high temperatures today and tomorrow will be 15-20 degrees colder than the past couple of days.  Breezy conditions will exist as a pesky west wind will make for some blustery conditions at times.  Overnight temps will dive down into the 20’s both nights, providing Cat with a decent window to make snow!

We’ll begin a transition back to milder weather on Saturday as high pressure begins to reassert itself.  Temperatures will rebound and blue skies and sunshine will return.  If Cat does open, it should be a pretty nice day to be on the slopes.  The guns will be off and while it will be warm, at least it will be sunny.

Here’s to hoping for a Saturday opening!
