All Resorts 12-5-11

A very slow moving cold front will approach the region today.  There is A LOT of moisture and precipitation associated with this system.  A slight chance of showers does exist for this afternoon but it looks like the rain won’t arrive for the most part until the late evening hours as the front edges closer.  Temperatures will remain on the cool side today.

The front will slowly begin move across the region tomorrow.  I say slowly begin but it’s really going to stall out.  Quite frankly, tomorrow and Wednesday look like washouts.  There is really no way of sugar coating it.  Both days look to be quite dreary.

The good news is that colder air will filter into the region Wednesday night and ski resorts in NC, WV, and VA could all see rain change to snow.  Resorts in NC and WV look to be a pretty safe bet to see some snow while the ski areas in Virginia are more borderline.  Regardless, it’s nice to be able to mention snow in this forecast.

Once the colder air arrives Wednesday night, it will stick around at least through the weekend.  This is great news as ALL of the ski resorts in the region should be able to make snow each night and a few will be able to do so around the clock.  Drier air and sunny skies will prevail as well so skiing and riding this weekend should be quite nice.
