Another Windy, Cold Day NC 1-24-13

Man is it windy outside!  The official Boone weather station measured a wind gust of 66 mph this morning.  That’s making for some rather blustery conditions this morning as temperatures remain on the chilly side.  The winds will gradually decrease throughout the day but high temperatures will remain sub-freezing again even with a good bit of sunshine.  More snowmaking!

A nasty system will create some sloppy conditions tomorrow beginning around lunch.  A mix of snow/sleet/freezing rain throughout the afternoon will make for some messy roads.  Snow accumulations are going to be minimal and limited mainly to the northwestern portion of the state near the NC/TN border (Beech, Sugar).  A dusting to 3″ is all that’s expected for the region right now.

Any lingering snow showers early Saturday will taper off quickly as Canadian high pressure returns.  Winds will be strong in the morning but will lessen throughout the day.  Sunshine returns and temperatures will remain on the cold-ish side.  Sunday is the best looking day of the week.  Seasonal temperatures and an abundance of sunshine will make for a fantastic day on the slopes.

Mild temperatures return Monday and Tuesday thanks to a moist, southerly wind flow.  Cloud cover will dominate each day as well.
