Another Wintry Mix in Store NC 2-21-13

February 21, 2013North Carolinaadmin

Morning sunshine gives way to increasing clouds this afternoon.  It’s going to be a rather pleasant day, so get outside and enjoy it if you can because the next two days are going to be sloppy.

A low pressure system is headed our way and is going to interact with cold air wedging itself down the eastern side of the Appalachians.  Precip begins around midnight tonight.  Higher elevations will briefly see snow before it quickly changes to rain.  Accumulations before the changeover look to be minimal, with maybe a couple inches possible.  Lower elevations will see a freezing rain/sleet mix persist through midday tomorrow before the transition to all rain.  Showers continue for everyone Friday afternoon and overnight.

Precip in the liquid form continues into the first half of Saturday before tapering off in the afternoon.  Temperatures will be slightly above average for this time of year.

Sunday is the pick of the weekend if you’re headed to the ski areas.  Sunshine returns and the final day of the week looks rather nice.

More unsettled weather is in the forecast for Monday and Tuesday.
