Colder Air Follows Today NC 4-1-13

What a pleasant start to the work week as the webcams are showing an abundance of sunshine across the region.  Temperatures today will be slightly below normal but that’s going to change once a cold front moves through late this afternoon.  This is a weak front so only party cloudy skies and scattered showers are expected.  Lows overnight are expected to dip below freezing though and even some flurries are possible.

High pressure quickly moves in behind the front.  Tuesday and Wednesday will be sunny, but unseasonably chilly.  High temperatures will be a good 10-15 degrees below normal for this time of year.

Thursday and Friday look rather gross as a low pressure system, originating on the Gulf coast, tracks to our south and then moves off to the northeast.  Precip begins Thursday morning and could be in the form of a wintry mix for a few hours before changing over to all rain.  Showers continue into Friday and should taper off in the late afternoon/evening.  Rainfall totals over the two days looks to be pretty decent, with some of the models showing 2-3 inches.

High pressure returns for the weekend and in general, Saturday and Sunday look really nice.  Sunshine and normal temperatures return.
