Snow and Bitter Cold WV 12-21-12

Hello winter! Today is the first day of the 2012/2013 winter season and boy has it arrived with a vengeance! A cold front moved through last night and shockingly colder temperatures quickly moved in behind it as did the snow. High winds and snow showers are going to persist through Saturday evening.  If you don’t have to go outside, don’t!

Some impressive snowfall totals are expected with this storm.  Starting in the southern portion of the state, Winterplace is expected to see 4-6″.  Snowshoe, Canaan, and Timberline will see much more than that.  Those ski areas could see a foot to a foot and a half by Saturday night.  Wisp Resort in Maryland could see very similar totals as well.

Sunday will see high pressure briefly move in.  It’s going to be really nice and a powder day with bluebird skies will make for some fantastic skiing conditions.

More snow is in the forecast for next week as two more disturbances will move through the region.  Winter has arrived!
