A Warmer Friday Gives Way to More COLD and SNOW!

This just in…another Ski Forecast from SkiSoutheast.com meteorologist Brad Panovich. Let me take a quick second to thank him, again, for sending us these tailor-made forecasts for the ski areas across the region…THANKS, Brad!

What’s in store for the weekend? The cold and snow return! We’ve had a doozy of a week! What started out as tons of snow coming out of the weekend quickly turned into ice and slushy mess. North Carolina actually got a significant amount of ice, from the mountains well down into the foothills. Schools in Watauga and the surrounding counties have been out all week!

Today brings much warmer temperatures, across the High Country temperatures may break into the 40’s and across the southeastern ski areas temps are going to creep into the 30’s. The warmer temperatures are short lived, however, as cold air moves back into the picture on Saturday and Sunday. The new winter weather system moving across the country will reach the east coast Sunday and into Monday. Rain will fall across Georgia, South Carolina, and parts of North Carolina. As for how much snow North Carolina and the Virginias will see, it’s hard to tell. The storm may leave most of the significant snowfall up around the Wisp, Snowshoe and Winterplace areas, though the North Carolina Mountains will see a little bit. This sytem could end up having affecting the Raleigh-Durham, Norfolk, and Chesapeake Bay areas as the band of snow may come along a bit later. Either way, the eastern seaboard is looking at another winter event. We will just have to sit tight to see exactly what kind of weather happens where.
