Another Round of a Wintry Mix NC 2-25-12

Another round of wintry precip is in store for the next few days and it looks like the cold is here to stay for the time being.  If you’re ready for warmer weather, you’re going to hate what’s in store for the next week as snow showers will continue through the weekend.  Us snowboarders and skiers are loving it though!

It’s a cloudy start to the week out there this morning and that trend will continue for most of the day.  A brief interval of sunshine this afternoon will more than likely happen but in general cloud cover will prevail.

A strong low pressure system is currently progressing across the central portion of the country.  It will make it’s way from Texas to the Ohio Valley region over the next two days.  The associated frontal boundaries will approach the region tonight and precipitation looks to begin falling around midnight.  Like last week, a cold air wedge will be in position at the surface which is going to create another widespread icing event.  The wintry mix continues into tomorrow before changing over to all rain after noon.  Precipitation in general should taper off by the evening.

Wednesday through Sunday looks rather interesting.  The combination of cold air, upper level support, adequate moisture, and a northwest wind flow is going to keep snow in the forecast for each day.  The usual favored locations along the TN/NC line could be looking at some significant accumulations by the end of the week.
