BIG Changes in Store WV 10-25-12

Continued pleasant weather continues today and tomorrow as high pressure remains across the region. Enjoy it while you can though because HUGE changes are in store this weekend and into next week.

A cold front is making it’s way across the middle of the country right now. This front is unusually strong for this time of year and has a very cold airmass behind it. It will cross the region Saturday. Saturday will see cloudy skies and showers in the afternoon and overnight.  Sunday will see much colder temperatures invade the region once the front moves off our east. Cloud cover still remains and winds will pick up as the day wears on.  Showers are a decent bet as well.

Things get interesting Sunday night and into Monday. Hurricane Sandy is currently located just north of eastern Cuba. It will track north and be off the coast of North Carolina by Monday. How far off the coast is still undecided as the two main models, the Euro and the GFS, differ on the track Sandy will take. The GFS has it staying further east and continuing to track north, making landfall near Maine and then turning inland. The Euro model has it staying closer to the coast and making landfall in Maryland. Either solution has it interacting with the cold front and bringing much colder air and snow into the region for Monday through Wednesday. High temperatures will be 30-40 degrees colder compared to this week. That is crazy.

Snowfall accumulations are still up in the air as totals will vary greatly depending on the track of Sandy. That said, it looks like the northern portion of West Virginia is going to see some accumulation from this storm.  Both models have several inches of snowfall for the northern portion of the state.  Things will become clearer in the coming days so stay tuned.
