Coldest Weather of the Season So Far VA 1-22-13

Arctic high pressure has begun to build into the region.  This is the coldest airmass we’ve seen this season.  Even with sunny skies, temperatures between now and Thursday will stay sub-freezing at the ski resorts, allowing for around the clock snowmaking.

A low pressure system begins to approach the region Thursday night.  A chance of snow is possible but flurries at best are all that’s expected.  Friday is when we really see the effects from the system as a mixed bag of precip will make for some sloppy conditions.  Snow, sleet, rain, and freezing rain are all possible Friday as the system moves through.

High pressure returns for the weekend but temperatures will remain on the cool side.  If you’re a skiier or snowboarder, this week will be great for the ski areas as snowmaking will continue throughout the week.
