Some Light Natural Snow and Snowmaking Amping up Excitement

Today’s featured image is from last season at Beech Mountain, but we are seeing similar sights today.

It is getting exciting around Ski Southeast country.

Another resort joined the snowmaking fray on Monday night, while some light natural snow is falling at some locations this morning to help get us in the season mood.

Amping up the excitement, even more, is the fact that we will see snowmaking the next couple of nights as we head quickly into the first week of the season.

Let’s roll.

What a view from Beech this morning – minus the water droplets on the lense.

Beech Mountain cranked up the snowmaking equipment for the first time of the season late Monday night, and they are still making snow this morning.

Beech joins Snowshoe, Cataloochee, and Sugar Mountain as resorts that have snowmaking operations ongoing so far this week.

Cataloochee was forced to turn off snowmaking early this morning but should be able to crank back up later this evening while Sugar is still focusing on the top half of the mountain.

At 4848′, the Cheat Mountain magic is in full effect as we are eight days from the scheduled opening day as snowmaking is full blast and some natural snow is falling across the mountain. (Note: A couple of hours after posting, Snowshoe announced that opening day had been moved to Friday, Dec. 4.)

Snowshoe has a winter vibe this morning with some light natural snow and snowmaking ongoing.

It is amazing how much snow our mountain op crews are able to crank out and the Snowshoe cameras (especially the Shaver’s Center camera) are certainly a testament to that.

Be sure to #ThankASnowmaker because they do fantastic work.

In addition to Snowshow, Wisp, Canaan, and Timberline are also seeing some light snow this morning that started around 7:20 or so, and we could see up to an inch fall in those locations.

We will take it.

As we move throughout the next couple of days, we may have a better idea of opening plans for a few resorts so be sure to keep an eye on our social media for the latest.

That does it for today, but until next time #ThinkSnow and #ThinkCold!
